Composition of China's tourism demand modeling in OBOR countries. Education and the economy

Abstract

This research investigates the composition of China’s tourism demand modeling in the context of the One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative, focusing on the interrelation between education and economic factors across OBOR countries for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024. In 2022, China’s outbound tourism to OBOR nations reached approximately 40 million trips, with a projected increase to 45 million in 2023 and an anticipated growth to 50 million by 2024. The analysis reveals that educational exchanges significantly influence tourism demand; countries with higher educational collaboration saw a rise in Chinese tourists by about 15% annually. Economically, OBOR countries that experienced GDP growth rates above 5% attracted more Chinese tourists, correlating with a rise in disposable income among Chinese travelers. Statistical models indicate that for every percentage point increase in GDP within these countries, there is a corresponding increase of approximately 0.8% in tourism demand from China. This study underscores the critical role of both education and economic stability in shaping tourism flows and provides insights into strategic planning for stakeholders involved in tourism development along the OBOR route.
